By giving students writing prompts, you let them be creative without carrying the burden of starting a piece of writing entirely from scratch.Try to use a different prompt every week or two to allow your students plenty of practice working through the writing process. W.9-10.2.a Introduce a topic; organize complex ideas, concepts, and information to make important connections and distinctions; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., figures, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.

That's a lot to ask of fifth graders and their teachers!

It can be overwhelming to find ways for fifth graders to practice all of these different kinds of skills.

Anyone can earn credit-by-exam regardless of age or education level.
